Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between sports massage and a regular massage?

Sports massage is more focused and tailored to how your body feels and moves.  Rather than being purely for relaxation, it looks at specific areas of tension, discomfort or restriction, whether that’s from sport, work, stress or everyday life.  It’s suitable for anyone, not just athletes.

I’m a bit nervous - is sports massage painful?

That’s completely understandable, and very common.  Many people come in feeling unsure, especially if it’s their first session.  Some areas may feel uncomfortable if they’re tight or sensitive, but pressure is always adapted to you.  I’ll check in throughout the session and work at a level that feels effective but comfortable.

What should I wear to my appointment?

For massage, wear comfortable clothing.  You’ll only be asked to remove what’s necessary for the area being treated, and you’ll always be appropriately covered.  For Pilates, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely is best, such as leggings or joggers and a fitted top.

Which service is right for me - massage or Pilates?

Massage is ideal for easing tension, pain or tight areas, while Pilates focuses on strength, movement and longer-term support.  Many clients find that combining both gives the best results, and we can decide together what will suit you best.

Is Pilates suitable if I’m injured or post-surgery?

Yes.  Sessions are 1-to-1 and tailored to your body and any limitations.  Pilates can be a gentle and effective way to rebuild strength, improve movement and support recovery at a pace that feels right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person.  Some people notice improvements after one session, while others benefit from ongoing support.  We’ll talk this through and agree on an approach that works for you.
